The National Campaign to Stop Violence (“NCSV”) invites all 6th, 7th and 8th grade students to create a new logo for the “Do the Write Thing Challenge” Program. The “Challenge,” the primary initiative of the NCSV, gives middle-school students an opportunity to engage in classroom discussions about the problems of violence, to write about their experiences with violence and about its causes. It emphasizes personal responsibility and empowers students to do something about ending violence in their lives and in their communities. This is the current logo for the program:

The winner will receive a laptop computer and trip to Washington, D.C., with one parent or guardian, during the National Recognition Week in July for the “Challenge” Program. The deadline for submissions is March 15, 2010. Visit http://www.dtwt.org/events/logo-contest for guidelines and participation forms.
We look forward to seeing your designs!

There are many things we are excited to share and discuss and hopefully they will live up to the name of “Do The Write Thing” proving it to be insightful and helpful to those whom have been affected with violence and/or share an interest in advocacy. We aim to dedicate this blog as a means of communication between students, volunteers, and everyone interested in learning more about our organization and the youth of America through their own words.
We are interested in your opinions. We want to hear what you have to say. So with that being said, we’re dedicating our first post to our mission of “Do the Write Thing” and to inform you how you can better stay connected! We will be updating on a constant basis, from news articles to information on our city programs and even personal stories from our interns and volunteers.
I believe in our youth, do you? We, at the National Campaign to Stop Violence, are just like the many that do. We believe in a safe world. But how does one create such a world?
The primary initiative of the National Campaign to Stop Violence is the “Do the Write Thing Challenge.” The “Challenge” helps give voice to our youth; we help empower them, and bring together community, business and government leaders to make resources available at the community, school, classroom and individual level. We want to help individual students make a lasting commitment to take responsibility for ending violence in their lives, homes and communities.After accepting the “Challenge” you become an ambassador for your own thoughts and ideas, which are ultimately more powerful than violence.
If you want to help “Do the Write Thing” fulfill its mission become a volunteer. Volunteers are the heart of our programs. We are always looking for volunteers in each of our participating locations. If you’ve got questions or need a little more convincing contact us at 1-800-256-0235, or by email — info@dtwt.org.
Here are some of the things you can help us accomplish:
- Publicity;
- Fundraising;
- Closing Ceremonies;
- Judging;
- Community Peace Partnership Development;
- School Relations/Increasing Teacher and Student Participation;
- Writing project reports;
- Hosting networking functions.
I hope you’ve enjoyed our first post. Feel free to join the conversation by posting comments. Thanks!
